A documentary that finds something universal in something deeply local. The kind of film that starts with a specific place and a specific practice, and ends with a question about how we all want to live.

What it means to know where your food comes from.
Locally Grown follows the people and practices behind food that is made, grown, and sold close to home, a story about the economics of small-scale production, the culture of a community, and what gets lost when that disappears.
Make the familiar feel worth paying attention to.
Documentary subjects about food and local community can easily tip into nostalgia or advocacy, both of which flatten the story. The challenge was staying specific: real people, real economics, real stakes. The film had to earn its emotion rather than manufacture it.
Observe first. Narrate second.
The documentary approach prioritized observation over explanation, letting the work and the people speak for themselves, with the camera close enough to catch the detail that makes it feel real rather than representative.
Observational documentary style, minimal crew, maximum access. The people and the place did the heavy lifting.
Cinematic capture designed to honor the texture of the subject, soil, light, hands, food. The kind of images that hold up at any size.
Edit and color built to feel like the season and the light of the shoot, warm, honest, unhurried.
"It made us want to go outside and grow something."
